Summary:Abstract Infant, neonatal and underfive mortality rates in Papua province were still high based on a survey conducted in year 2000. In Abepura district hospital, perinatal mortality rate increased from 36,42 to 49/1000 live births in year 2001,2002 and 2003, respectively. The majority of perinatal deaths occurred among referral cases. This study aimed to identify service related risk factors among the referred cases. The study applied cross sectional survey. All perinatal cases referred by health staff or non health staff from May 2003 to February 2004 (113 cases) were used in this study and data collected through questionnaire and check list. Relative risk with 95 % confidence interval and logistic regression were calculated.
