Nugroho, L. H. and R. Verpoorte. 2004. Variation in T2 Generation of Constitutive Salicylic Acid Producing Tobacco Plants After Self-pollination. Biologi 3 (4): 211 - 221.
The production of salicylic acid (SA) and SA-glucoside (SA-G) was detected in T, and T2 generation plants of various lines of constitutive salicylic acid producing (CSA)- tobacco plants. The growth of CSA-tobacco plants was also assessed. The number and diameter of lesions in CSA-tobacco plants were also recorded after tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) infection. The T, CSA-tobacco lines produced higher level of salicylic acid than T2 plants. The T, generation of line 15 plants produced higher SA levels compared to the plants of other lines of T: and T2 generation. The growth of plants with a high level of SA was retarded. Moreover, the number and diameter of lesions in plants with high SA level were also lower than in plants with low level ofSA.
