Anemia during pregnancy in Indonesia including Central Java remain high. Anemia during pregnancy have unexpected effect such as prolonged labor, hemorrhage, Low Birth Weight (LBW), abortion and prematurity. The effect of anemia during pregnancy through to LBW and prematurity has not been performed in Central Java predominantly.
Objective of this study is to know the effect of anemia during pregnancy and their relationship with LBW and prematurity and to identify the risk factors of LBW and prematurity.
This study was an observational research with cohort design. The subject were pregnant women with hemaglobin concentration lower than 11 gr/dLand pregnant women with hemaglobin concentration > 11 gr/ dL as control group. The measurement was using hemoque method. All subjects lived in Semarang, Salatiga, Demak, Grobogan, Kendal, and Brebes, Central Java. The birth weight measurements were performed by village midwives or local doctors as soon as the babies were bom.
