Description
Summary:Resistance of six kenaf varieties, namely Hc.33, Hc.37, Hc.48, Hc.62, Hc.G4 and Hc.108, to Phoma sabdariffae were studied under green house conditions. Result indicated that morphological and anatomical characters such as slomale density and measurement, trichome density and epidermal thickness could not be used as resistance indicators. Evidently, wounding the leaf margin might caused shortened incubation period, increase in percentage of infected leaves and increase in disease intensity. Leaf inoculation with growth medium filtrate cause necrotic spots which rapidly developed into blight. This evidence indicated that the fungus was able to synthesize a phytotoxic substance.
