Summary: | ABSTRACT:
Geographic information system database should be based on the base maps that have adequate accuracy because they will be used as a reference for other spatial information. Maps and other geographical data are commonly referenced to locations on the earth surface using a standard coordinate system. If maps and/or other geograhical data are to be integrated they should be represented on the same system. The most common method used to bring data that have different systems into the same system is coordinate transformation.
This research was done to find the deviation of the results of two different techniques of coordinate transformation from the Polyeder Projection Systems into the Universal Transverse Mercator Projection Systems. The first technique used a coordinate transformation package program available in the PC - Arc/Info software, while the second used manual calculations based on mathematical formulas. For this purpose, the research used a topographic map on the scale of 1 : 50,000. The results of these two techniques were compared. The research concluded that the longest deviation is 0.93600 meters and the sortest deviation is 0.01131 meters |
