| Summary: | Twelve from 15 depressive patiens were subjects of this study. The inclusion criteria are females and males of 17 - 55 years of age, who suffered from depression for at least 2 weeks at the beginning of the study, and with a Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression more than 17 of at least four measurements. The exclusion criteria are pregnancy, lactation, severe physical illness, a tendency to become manic and the existence of delusion and hallucination. The study revealed that the optimal efficacy of maprotiline, was during the rd weeks of the study. The main effect of maprotiline is to infuence insomnia and somatic symptoms
