description ABSTRACT Plant latex is one of the alternative renewable energy sources. After beeing tapped, the latex is dried and then pyrolyzed to liquid fuel and gas. Pyrolysis of dried keluwih (Artocarpus Communis Frost) latex in a deflecting tube reactor did not produce much liquid fuel due to the long period of contact of the product with the hot wall. Straight tube reactor might give more liquid product. Melted sukun (Artocarpus Communis Frost) latex was introduced into the hot reactor. Pyrolysis started soon and the gas produced, replaced the sodium chloride solution in the gas collecting bottle. After a while the liquid product fell dropwise from the condensers to the liquid receivers. The reactor temperature was controlled manually using a powerstat. At 5 minute intervals, the temperature and volumes of the liquid and gas were observed and recorded. Sukun latex could be pyrolyzed to liquid fuel with good yield. Longer period of heating and higher temperature increased the total liquid and gas product. Liquid products decreased with temperature, but up to 530°C, their quantities were always higher than those of the gas products. Using the three lumps model, the formation of products followed first order reaction. The activation energies for gas production were higher than those for liquid formation. The liquid product consisted of unsaturated hydrocarbons having 6 - 91 carbon chains and its physical properties were not so far from the specification of fuel oil. Its gross heating value was 10576,2 cal/g.
