| Summary: | ABSTRACT
One concrete step in the move towards rice self sufficiency through extensive agriculture is development of one million hectares of peat land in Central Kalimantan. To this end, an adequate supply of skilled human resources made available through the transmigration program is essential for farming the tracts of irrigated agricultural land which are to be opened up. This in turn creates the need for settlements suitable for habitation, for business, and for development.
In compiling technical proposals for transmigration settlements in this area of peat land the determining variables are: topographical conditions, the suitability of the land for the type of agriculture to be developed, a clean water supply, and other aspects of a social nature. This case study regarding the proposal for transmigration settlements SKP A/SP 1, located in Lamunti reveals a relativ4 high level of efficiency of land use. Analogy can be drawn from this study which can be used to formulate technical proposals for transmigration settlements on peat land throughout the Lamunti district
