| Summary: | The Palace of Surkarta (in Jawa, Known as Kraton Surakarta) which has so many great traditional culture, along with the Walisongo have success in devising the Gunungan Garebeg Maulud. Indirectly, in the symbol of the visual language, its function is to manifest the charity and the blessing of the King. It also played an important role in the spread of Islam religion in Java.
This examination has a couple of purposes. Besides knowing various things that based the device of the Gunungan Garebeg Maulud Kraton Surakarta, it also discover the meaning and the symbolical function, examine the structure and the working scheme, and apprehened the representation of the "Islamic Java" values related to the art point of view. The data have have been collected by examining some historicalliterature, from various references and actual resources such as Sentana Dalem and Abdi Dalem (common occupations in Surakarta Palace Dinasty), important figure in religion, cultural theorist, intellectuals, as well as the general society.
By examinign the arts aspects thoroughly, especially in design aspect -- the result is that the Gunungan Garebeg Maulud Kraton Surakarta was devised by regarding the implementation of visual elements and principles of design. Thus, the form of the visual result can be effective communication media that bring up the meaning and the symbolical function � to be like, intelligible, and responded positively by general society.
