| description | Jagaraga village is one of the Adat villages in Sawan District, Singaraja Regency, Bali Province. According to the history, the kings in Bali fought against the Dutch colonization. This village played a very important role at that time and was identical with the war of Puputan Jagaraga in 1848 and 1849.
As an Adat village Jagaraga has a Pura Dalem, namely Pura Tasik Madu or Sagara Madu (Sea of Honey). It locates in the right side (toward the sea), approximately 200m from from the housing settlement and close to the cemetery.
This study aims at exploring the background for the changes in the layout and form, as well as the real function of this Pura Dalem. Therefore, the research data are obtained from both the library sources and field observation. The first sources consist of chronicles and books on the history, architecture, decorative art, religion and mythology which give information on the historical background of Pura Dalem Jagaraga. The field data are obtained from observation and interview with a number of resource persons. Direct observation in the field is conducted to find out the reality in the field.
The lay-out, the form and the decoration of Pura Dalem Jagaraga are really different from the standard Balinese temple. The difference lies among others in the lay out of Kori Agung with a Candi Bentar which moves from its original places |
