description ABSTRACT The isolation and identification of antimicrobial compound from the aerial parts of Lantana camara L". plant has been carried out. The isolation was started by maceration of the the aerial parts of Lantana camara L. plants with chloroform (CHQ3), then remacerated with methanol (MeOH). Both extracts were tested for their antimicrobial activity using agar dilution method. The active extract was then extracted with aceton, followed by microbial activity and the active fraction was then refractinated with 80% MeOH, followed by microbial activity test. The active fractions were then defractinated using vacuum liquid cnromatography (VLC). The fractions were tested for their antimicrobial activity using agar dilution method, followed by bioautogra-phy method. Active spot was then isolated using preparatif TLC. The minimal bactericidal consentration (MBC) value of isolate (LC^), was determined using agar dilution method. Structure elucidation of active compound was established based on the spectra of ultra violet (UV), infra red (IR), mass spectra (MS), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)13C, NMR1^ correlation spectroscopy (COSY) and heteronuclear correlation (HETCOR). The U V spectra of isolate (LCOT), showed the maximum absorbance (1) at 241 nm. The IR spectra showed the wavenumber (n) at 3448 cm1 (OH), 2918 cm1, 2850 cnr1 (CH3 CH2 alifatik), 1718 cm1 (CO dari COOH) dan 1637 cm 1(C=C). High resolution electrospray ionization showed molecular ion m/z 470 (CJ-I OJ. The NMR13C spectra at 100 MHz showed 35 absorbance (35 C), 178ppm (COOH), 165,5 ppm (C=O ester), 122,5 ppm, 143 ppm (the oleanilic families,b-amirin skeleton). Based on UV, IR, MS, and NMR"C, identification of isolate LQ, seems to be a compound that have olean type, b-amirin skeleton, with ester of carboxilic acid. The NMR^ spectra at 400 MHz showed 8 sharp singlet absorbances (8 methyl singlets), and absorbance at 5,56 ppm (atom H at C^). Based on the spectrum and comparation with literature study, and ensure with COSY and HETCOR spectrum, it can be concluded that the aktif compound is lantanilic acid. Based on the antimicrobial activity test of isolate (LCm), Lantana camara L. plant contains lantanilic acid, that be able to kill the growth of Staphylococcus aureus at the concentration of 375 mg/ml.
