Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: Identification of ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) from Carica papaya L. has been carried out based on the ability of the leaves crude extract to cleave supercoiled double stranded DNA and the presence of N-glycosidase activity. To determine the active protein responsible for this activity, the proteins were purified by fractionation with ammonium sulphate. In the present work, the leaves crude extract was precipitated by ammonium sulphate with degree of saturation of 20%-I00%. The activity of the protein fractions were measured by the N-glycosidase activity in rRNA of yeast to determine the active protein. The result indicated that the protein fractions of 80% saturated of ammonium sulphate were the most active into the N-glycosidase activity in yeast rRNA among the other protein fractions. Key word: Carica papaya L., protein fractions N-glycosidase
