Description
Summary:Wave power plant uses the wave energy in certain locations where the wave energy is in the high level state. Because of that, wave transformations and breaking waves play significant role. This paper presents a numerical model on the wave transformation. The numerical model was solved using Airy wave theory, modified Ebersole et.al. approach, and the finite difference method. The numerical model is able to give reasonable patterns of the wave transformation. The model can be used as a tool in predicting a suitable location for a wave power plant module. Yet, there are still discrepancies between the result predicted by the model and the wave height prototype, especially in a region around a breaking point. The discrepancies are probably caused by weakness of Ebersole et.al. approach in responding bar shaped bottom profile and great turbulence occurs right after the breaking process, weakness of the breaking criteria in modeling the real breaking process, and the use of several empirical coefficients.
