Description
Summary:Soil water infiltration from the surface to the groundwater level can influence the groundwater impurity if it contains pollutant that may pollute the groundwater. This research has been conducted to understand the soil water infiltration process and determine the soil water infiltration velocity using tracer techniques. Tritium in the form of HTO and 12P in the form of TS32P fertilizer was used as the tracer. The soil was put on vertical tubes, with variation in thickness at 15, 20, and 23 cm. The soil density for each thickness was established at 1,126 gr/cm2. Inlet and outlet water debit were steady at 40 cm'/hr. Sampling method was done to measure water outlet activity on certain time, and the result was calculated by Mean Residence Time method. The results of this research indicate that the soil water infiltration velocities for each thickness are 0.801 cm/hr, 0.807 cm/hr, and 0.867 cm/hr successively, and the velocity rate is 0.825 cm/hr. The travel time of TS32P fertilizer is slower than the water (i.e. 0,721 cm/hr) because of the soil absorption process. The soil water infiltration velocity is remaining constant for homogenous and water-saturated soil.
