Summary: | ABSTRACT
The state of adhesion and friction between layers of flexible pavement has significant influence on the pavement performance. To increase bonding between layers, asphalt tack coats are applied prior to overlay. Over usage of tack coat potentially causes bleeding.
The main objective of this research is to use the direct shear test principle to explore the effect of asphalt tack coats on shear strength of pavements interface. Asphalt tack coat material used in the research was admixture of asphalt cement penetration 60/70 and 25% kerosene.
The research results show the correlation between tack coat content and the shear strength parameters. The influence of material characteristics to the flexible pavement performance and its mechanism are also presented.
Keywords: geotechnics, pavement, tack coat, shear strength.
