Emotion is an important factor in human relation. It can hinder as well as enhance the relationship among people. Nonverbal communication, such as facial expressions, is worthwhile to be studied since it is full of information regarding a person's emotional state. The question is whether females and males who are involved in the helping professions are sensitive in interpreting those facial expressions of emotions. Fifty six counselors and psychologists participated in this study. It was found that both sexes were accurate in their interpretations of anger, disgust, fear, joy, sadness, shyness, and surprise. However, females were better in interpreting the intensity of shyness than their male counterparts. This might be due to the females' familiarity of this expression, therefore, they are more sensitive to it.
