Summary: | The solid dispersion method can be used to improve the dissolution properties and
bioavailability of poorly water soluble drugs. We have applied this technology to dexamethasone by solvent evaporation method.
In order to investigate the physical properties and dissolution rate of dexamethasone
tablets, with hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) and hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) as solid dispersion systems, the study had been carried out.
These two formulas showed no significant differences in the physical properties. However the dissolution rate of tablets made up using hydroxypropyl cellulose as solid dispersion carrier seemed to be higher than that of the hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose. The high dissolution rate was likely due to methyl substitution on hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose structure.
