Description
Summary:Adhesion is a condition in which two materials are glued together in the presence of interfacial forces. The objective of this is research is to investigate the effect of tension wood and glue spread on adhesion properties of mangium wood. It is expected that the result of this research will give more information about adhesion condition of tension wood in comparison with normal wood. It provides adhesion consideration in the production of processed wood, especially those that use urea formaldehyde adhesive and mangium wood. This research employed 2 x 3 factorial experiment with 5 times replication arranged in a completely randomized design. When significant differences found, then Tukey test was applied. The factor employed in this research were type of wood (i.e. tension wood and normal wood) and glue spread (i.e. 20 #/MSGL, 40 #1 MSGL and 60 4/MSGL). The results showed that interaction effect was absent in all variables. It was indicated that tension wood gave better adhesion than normal wood and showed significant differences on air dry shear strength, air dry wood failure, wet shear strength and wet wood failure with average values for tension wood and normal wood 53,064 kg/cm2 and 41,561 kg/cm2
