description Volume equations are prerequisites to construct tree volume tables. They are used in forest inventory works to determine the standing volume of a forest. They are also prerequisites to forest growth which is important in the formulation of sound forest management strategies and policies. The generally objective of the research is to develop new volume models for residual logged over forest which could predict volume of trees more accurate. The specific objectives are to accomplish the following: 1) to reassess the existing volume equation (old model) applicable for the residual forest stand, and 2) to ascertain the acceptability of the equation as a new volume model for the residual standing stock for its timber management planning. There were six possible regression equations to be tested and assessed for their statistical validity and accuracy in predicting tree volume for them given diameter at breast height (dbh) and tree height. The research was conducted in PT Tanjung Raya Timber Base Camp Bakanon, Muara Teweh, Central Kalimantan. The results showed that Model 2 (log V = 1)0 + b1 log (D) + b2 41-1) gave the best estimate of tree volume for all species group. Separation in group between dipterocarp and non-dipterocarp did not show accurate result. Model 2 and its Old model (V = 1/4 p D2.1-I . F) were not significantly different, however, to avoid overestimate volume it is recommended to use Model 2 in order to execute more appropriate exploitation intensity. Key words: volume equation, residual forest, forest inventory
