Summary: | Prevalence of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (IDD) in Indonesia is still relatively high. In the year of 1994, it was estimated that there were around 42 million people who live in the endemic area. The survey result of IDD mapping in the year of 1998 in West Sumatera especially in the sub district IV Angkat Candung of Agam district showed that the prevalence of Total Goiter Rate (TGR) of school children was 41,0 %. One of the efforts to handle the problem of IDD was by empower Guru Surau (Moslem religion teacher) as message conveyor to prevent the IDD. Therefore, Guru Surau needs to be given knowledge regarding IDD through health education. This research was aimed to find out the improvement of knowledge and attitude regarding IDD and description of Guru surau's skill in informing IDD after given health education with speech method accompanied with module.
This research was a quasi-experimental one group pre and posttest design. It was done toward 41 Guru Surau who were given health education regarding IDD. Commencement condition was compared with condition after given health education. This research was done with qualitative method that used Focus Group Discussion and In-depth Interview in order to obtain information regarding implemented health education.
