| Summary: | The aim of this study is to know the potential of groundwater for irrigation in the district of Pengasih, Kulon Progo, Yogyakarta.The methods used are field study and chemical analysis of groundwater in laboratory.The result of the chemical analysis in laboratory shows that the groundwater in the area meets a requirement for irrigation, although the quality of the groundwater has declined in 2000 and 2001. It changes from excellent to good into good to permissible, from medium salinity and low alcaly hazard into high salinity and low alcaly hazard. The groundwater still contains Calcium Bicarbonat Magnesium and Calcium Magne¬sium Bicarbonat (Wilcox) and is classified in class 5 that is, the dominant earth alcaly and low acid. The groundwater is safe for irrigation and the effect of salinity can be ignored.
