Description
Summary:The relationship, between clinical and laboratory parameters and dehydration in suckling goat was studied in 8' goat kids, aged between 2 and 8 weeks. Dehydration was induced by fasting from all kinds of feed and administration of diuretics (every 4 hours) during 24 hours. Linear regression was used to evaluate the relationship between enophthalmus, skin tent (upper eyelid, upper neck, middle neck, lower neck, thoracal region), pulse and respiration rate, body temperature, hematocrit (PCV), hemoglobin, total plasma protein (TPP) and the degree of dehydration determined by change of body weight. The results indicated that enophthalmus was closely related to the hydration status (R2 = 0,80) and therefore could be usefUl as predictor for dehydration in suckling goat. Keywords: Dehydration, Suckling goat.
