A study on palynological evidence for environmental Change in Dieng
Higland, Central Java, had been conducted. An intensive study for the reconstruction
of past was done by determining the pollen biostratigraphy of Telaga
Balekambang at Dieng Plateau. Preparation and pollen analysis were done by standard
procedures of Faegri and Iversen ( 1989). The result of the palynological investigation are presented in the form of a pollen diagram, which is used for the basic interpretation. The organic content of the sediment was alalyzed by the method of Walkley-Black (Allison, 1965). The age of sediment samples were determined by radiocarbon dating. The result revealed that based on the characteristics of the sediment cores is an indication that the physical environment in Dieng area has changed, and that it affectied the sedimentation processes in the lake. The tructures and floristec composition of the vegetation at Dieng higland in the past has changed as the result of climatic changes. This indicates to a change in climate, viz. a rise of mean temperature, The volcanic activity were present, but have not had dominant effect on the flora and vegetation at Dieng Higland.
