| Summary: | Current trends in orthodontic care emphasize non extraction treatment, despite a lack of support from the refereed literature for many of the proposed alternatives to the extraction of premolars. The purpose of this review is to summarize the results of Investigations describing the aesthetic impact of extraction of orthodontic treatment on facial profile. A review provides little support for the viewpoint that bicuspid extraction has a routinely negative impact on facial profile.
