Summary: | The purpose of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of composite brackets and metal brackets to teeth utilizing light cured glass ionomer cement.
Forty extracted maxillary first premolars were selected as subjects in this research. They were divided into two groups. Group I was treated using the composite brackets and group II using the metal brackets. The shear bond strength of each group was measured after 10 minutes and 24 hours of application.
The Pearson Pankee Equipment Ltd was used to test the shear bond strength of the brackets on the teeth. The Zoom Stereo Microscope was used to determine the bracket failure location in accordance to Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI). Two-way Anova was used to determine the comparison of the shear strength of the composite brackets and the metal brackets after 10 minutes and 24 hours using light cured glass ionomer cement. Meanwhile, to determine the bracket failure location, Chi-Square test was conducted.
The result of this study indicated that the shear bond strengths average of the composite brackets was not different from metal brackets (p>0,05) at 10 minutes and 24 hours after bonding. Both composite and metal brackets failure location due to shear bond strength test occurred mostly between bonding adhesive and bracket and within the adhesive itself. |
