description ABSTRACT A field experiment was conducted at the Tea PlantatiOn of PT Pagilaran in Pagilaran, Batang. 1 altitude of this area is 850 m above the sea level. Plant materials of this experiment were Cin 56 dr that suffering from water stress due to drought condition during 4 month (July-September 199 Normally, the rainfall averages 4500 mm a year, and it distribute well in every months. The objectives of this experiment were to analyze the growth and yield of the plant that affect by pruning applied under suffering from water stress. The field experiment was arranged in Randomized Completely Block Design with two replications as blocks. Five treatments of pruning we applied, namely the frame of the bush was cut at 60-70cm from the ground (kepris), and clean pruning high of 45-60 cm from the ground, without or with one branch of shoot left. A treatments was applied the tea plant that not suffering from drought as a control. Each treatment was consisted of 15 plants. T parameters observed were dry weight of shoots during 5 to 7� months after pruning, relative shoot grow rate, number of shoots per plant, relative growth rate, net assimilation rate, crop growth rate, specil leave area, and specific leave weight. Results of this experiment showed that there was no significantly different among the kinds pruning on growth and yield. However, the clean pruning with one branch of shoot left tended to have tl higher value. Pruning application for tea plants under suffering from drought condition could give d same capacity to recover of plant shoots, and it gave the same level of yield after 5 months from prunir application compared to the plant control. There were no significantly different among the treatments c dry weight of shoots during 5 to 7 months after pruning, number of shoots per plant, relative growth rat! net assimilation rate, crop growth rate, specific leave area, and specific leave weight. However, tf relative shoot growth rate of the clean pruning application was higher significantly different than th kepris pruning. Both of these treatments were still lower than the control. INTISARI Penelitian lapangan dilakukan di kebun teh min PT Pagilaran di Pagilaran, Batang. Kebun in terletak pada ketinggian 850 m di atas permukaan laut. Bahan peneiitian yang dipakai adalah klon Leh Ch 56 yang mengalami cekaman kekeringan selarna 4 bulan (Juli-September 1997). Pada kondisi normal rata-rata curah hujan di kebun Pagilaran cukup tinggi, yaitu 4.500 mm per tahun, dan merata sepanjani tahun. Tanaman teh klon Cin 56 banyak mengalami kematian karena tidal( tahan terhadap kekeringar yang cukup lama. Pemangkasan dilakukan sebagai upaya mengurangi penderitaan tanaman, yaitu memperkecil penguapan lewat proses transpirasi, sehingga tanaman diharapkan dapat tetap hidup. Beberapa cara pemangkasan dicobakan untuk .mengetahui cara yang cocok, yakni dapat menyelamatkan tanaman dart cekaman kekeringan, dan tanaman memiliki kecepatan pertumbuhan kembali yang lebih baik.
