Summary:ABSTRACT A research was conducted to see the effect of cadmium chlorida, in several doses, on spermatogenesis and the cadmium contents in testis and liver. The relation between spermatogenesis inhibition and cadmium content in testis, was also investigated. Twenty adult male rats were divided randomly into four groups. Group A received 0, group B 10, group C 55 and group D 100 ppm of cadmium chloride in drink-water for 30 days. They then were killed for histopatological examination to assess the spermatogenesis inhibition and the liver damage, and to measure the cadmium contents in testis and liver. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively to the cadmium contents in testis and liver by using the analysis of variance and Duncan's tests. The spermatogenesis inhibition in rat was found in the 55 ppm treatment, with the cadmium contents in testis and liver 0.144 and 2.347 ug/g wet weight respectively. The 100 ppm treatment showed necrosis and spermatogenesis inhibition in 0,291 and 3.565 ug/g wet weight of cadmium contents. The 10 ppm treatment with 0.028 and 0.328 ug/g wet weight of cadmium contents, did not show spermatogenesis inhibition. The higher cadmium content in testis, the worse the spermatogenesis inhibition. The .100 ppm treabnent with 3.656 ug/g wet weight of cadmium contents did not show any liver damage. Key words: cadmium - spermatogenesis inhibition - rat
