The lack of discipline to pick up and put down passenger at the designated shelter has been estimated to increase fuel consumption. The research is aimed to investigate the effect of this behaviour on fuel consumption for Yogyakarta urban buses and to formulate the cost-efficient operation system.
The research investigated KOPATA bus fleet operating in routes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9. Detailed measurement of fuel consumption for 10 buses were carried out using Fuel Consumption Meter (EDM) 1404 and GPS equipment.
The research demonstrates that irregular stop-and-go yield higher fuel consumption than fixed shelters stops between 14,29% and 39,09%.. The analysis has produced a renewed formulation of White (1995) graph to design the most efficient bus operation suitable for Yogyakarta urban public transport. Future research should focus on comparing the most fuel-efficient public transport system between mixed-traffic and lane separated regime.
