Summary:ABSTRACT Conducive organizational climate is believed to have positive effects towards motivation for work. This study is aimed to find out how organizational climate affects motivation for work of librarians, with particular reference to librarians at public senior high schools in Pontianak municipality. A descriptive method is used to give an overview of the object of the study based on data and facts collected in the area. A deep interview is conducted with school librarians, supported with close observation and secondary data. To ensure data validity a cross-check on the data given is made by interviewing heads of the schools observed and authorities of the Regional Office of the Department of Education and Culture in the West Kalimantan Province. A collection of facts and data are analyzed and interpreted by using a qualitative approach. The result of the study shows that motivation for work of the librarians of public senior high schools in Pontianak municipality is relatively low. This can be seen from low sense of responsibility towards their job, limited capabilities in job completion, dissatisfaction with library management system and low enthusiasm in pursuing their career in library profession. Low motivation for work results from unconducive organizational climate whereby decision making practices in library activities do not always involve librarians. Communications between librarians and their superiors does not run well. Lack of support and library facilities contribute to the problem. As a consequence of such undesirable condition, technical library activities are not properly handled. An unconducive organizational climate has apparently brought about psychological impact to librarians of public senior high schools in Pontianak municipality who feel that their job is not really meaningful to the educational institution in which they work.
