Summary:Carbamida Peroxide is a bleaching agent that can be used easily by the patient, using mouthguard. This unstable agent contains free radical oxygen that can result in enamel demineralization followed by degradation of the enamel hardnesss.. The aim of this research was to know the influence of the soaking time in carbamide peroxide 10% against the hardness of the enamel. Twenty five first maxilary premolar was divided into 5 groups. The first group(group A) was soaked into 10% carbamide peroxide for 4 hours, group Bwas soaked for 6 hours, group C was soaked for 8 hours, group 0 was soaked for 10 hours and group E (control group) was soaked into aquadest for 10 hours. After that, all of them was soaked into artificial saliva for 16 hours, and then the hardness of the enamel was tested. The result of this research shows that the average enamel hardness of group A was 321,2 kgf/mm2, group B 318,6 kgf/mm2, group C 315,2 kgflmm2, group D 308 kgflmm2 and group E 334,8 kgf/mm2. Statisytic analyzes shows that there is a strong relationship between the duration of soaking time and the hardness of enamel. Keywords : soaking time, carbamide peroxide,enamel hardness
