Description
Summary:ABSTRACT: As a modem economic sector tourism is often hoped to generate tha better working condition. But some studies have shown that working condition in this industry, especially in hotel sector in the developing countries, tend to be bad. This paper presents the working condition of hotel employment using a micro-study as a case sample. The analysis reveals that the major source of hotel employment is house keeping. The major segmen of employment represents the worst working condition. The normative worker's right, like minimum subsistence wage, bonuses, etc have not yet been implemented by the hotel management. Consequently, the working condition is less good than usually perceived by those outside the hotel industry. In the long term, this can damage the tourism industry as a whole. Therefore it is suggested that the improvement of working condition need urgently to be taken. Keywords: tourism, hotel industry, working condition, wages, skill
