Buffer overflows has become a threat to the computer network security system since the middle of 1980. In June 1999, it was found another threat to the scuritywhich is later called format string vulnerability. Both the threats should be cared over and aware of.
People have grown into an information-based society. Accuracy of information along with fast access to it is almost a must nowadays. Computer network becomes the main infrastructure to support such demand. Unfortunately, failure to provide information may-happen if the server system gains disturbance. The disturbance generally begins with the existence of intrusion efforts into the server system by crackers. Weakness or vulnerability of the server system is the security hole always targeted by crackers.
Format string vulnerability and buffer overflows are two common assets and become weapons of crackers for system attack and exploitation.
