The waste volume of Kendari increase every year, therefore it needs a more serious management and handling system. With the increase of waste volume, the district government of Kendari City forced to overcome the domestic waste by involving all layer of the society. This study was aimed to find out factors affecting the role of society in the community of Kendari City. The survey was carried out in the population of family chiefs in Kendari. The sample was taken proportionally randomized samples, of 100 family chiefs. Data was collected with questionnaire and completed with an interview.
The collected data was analyzed using descriptive and correlative method. The variable of formal educational level with r�value = 0,5813, the GNP level with r = 0,4280 and the number of family with r = 0,5145 and the enforcement from the Kendari district government with r-value of 0,4289. Each variable had its own significant correlation and positive effect on the role of the society in handling the domestic waste. The result showed that there was a significantly difference (p < 0,0) between level of participation of civil/military servant and retired servant and that non civil/military servant and non retired civil/military servant with mean of 1,550.
