The social conflict occurring in Moluccas, and particularly in Ambon city, on January 19, 1999 and April 25, 2004 have had some bearing on public interaction in different public living aspects in Ambon. Their thoroughly effects were mainly in economic, political, cultural and cross-religion aspects, between natives (both Moslems and non Moslems) and migrants, migrants and non Moslems as well as between Moslems in general and non Moslems (protestant, catholic and others) in the Ambon city.
In economic aspect, it focused on the public living interaction of the sellers in mardika, batumerah traditional markets, as well as the batugajah and batu gantung incidental markets, regarding sales relationship, such as market area control, income level, sellers jealousy. In political aspect, it in-chided government policy on relocating the refugees resulted from both conflict and FKM-RMS separating movement. The cultural aspect concentrated on the pela-gandong culture regarding the background, significance and system, and the function. In addition, the cross-religion aspect focused on the attitude and response of the prominent figures of-religions and community, the city transport drivers, as well as the community in general. The above aspects became the triggering factors and the root of such interaction gap of the Ambon community, and reflected a latent conflict.
Seeing such condition of the community, it would be necessary to make a conflict transformation by regulating economic center for sellers, regulating transport current for city transport of armada, empowering cultural, public, and region prominent figures as well as empowering the religion and cultural institutions. Besides, it would be desired that the fair law enforcement should be applied by state institutions in line with this problem. It should manifest public edification to create dynamic interaction, targeting a formation of the safe, peaceful and tranquil community of the Ambon city.
