Summary:ABSTRACT Hardware and software have been built to control the photothermal deflection spectroscopy system at the Laboratorium Fisika Atom Inti, Jurusan Fisika, Universitas Gadjah Mada. A stepper motor was used to rotate a micrometer screw to select the wavelength of pump laser. The stepper motor rotation was controlled by a computer via a controller circuit. The accuracy of the stepper motor calculated from data experiment was 0.00023 mm wavelength per step. The hardware and software were tested with the photothermal deflection spectroscopy system, and found to be working perfectly. Experiment with ethylene gas as a sample was performed, and the result was a spectrum of pump laser power and deflection signal in the 10P transition with maximum signal observed at 10P14.
