Description
Summary:ABSTRAK The need to treat both symptomatic and asymptomatic hypertensive patients is now incontestable. Both fatal and non-fatal events of cerebrovascular accidents and congestive heart failure were found to be reduced significantly, but has not influenced the advance of atherosclerosis, primarily coronary events. Multiple observations suggest that metabolic disarray consequent to the use of anti-hypertensive agents, especially thiazides and /3-biockers, may have contributed to this scenario. Left ventricular hypertrophy respons selectively to anti-hypertensive agents. It is known to be a major risk factor for coronary events, arrhythmias, and heart failure. This article describes a short review on the relationship of anti-hypertensive therapy to the coronary heart disease. Key Words : anti-hypertension, coronary heart disease, insulin resistance, metabolic abnormalities, left ventricular hypertrophy
