Summary:After more than two decades, Indonesia finally has a national car. Eventhough it is not a real national car in the true sense, "Timor" reflects a strategic breakthrough in automotive industry development. Enjoying a tax-free facility from the government, Timor's price is less than half the price of other cars of the same type and in the same class. The national car phenomenon has stimulated a great change in automotive industry behavior. First, it is trying to improve production efficiency, in order to cut price. Second, other national cars are now being launched and trying to get similar tax facilities as "Timor" has. Since the exiting national car is not built based on a purposive-specific research, but simply by imitating KIA-Sephia best selling cars as its prototype, one very provocating question emerges: "Can Timor fulfill the needs of Indonesia consumer?" It is hoped that Timor will benefit the consumer in proportion to the so much government facilities it enjoys. Key woids: national car
