| description | Background: Total capitation system applied by PT. Askes Indonesia for public health centers invites public health centers to apply cost containment. Therefore public health centers can get rewards in the end of the contract year. The cost containment does not always result in bonus. This study aims to find out factors affecting health service cost containment.
Methods: This was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Samples were chosen purposively consisted of 30 heads of public health centers as respondents. The independent variables were knowledge of total capitation, financial risk perception, medical equipment fa¬cilities, referral drugs, and the number of capital members. The dependent variables was cost containment. The quantitative analysis using corellation test was used to find out the relation¬ship between dependent and independent variables.
Results: 56.66% respondents had good knowledge of total capitation and only 20% had good perception of financial risk supported by the public heath centers. Most of the respondent (96.67%) used preventive and promotive program as cost containment. There was significant relationship between the availability of medical equipment and referral drugs and cost contain¬ment.
Conclution: Some factors related to the cost containment were the availability of medical equipment and referral drugs. The better the facilities of medical equipments and referral drugs available, the better the cost containment done by the Public Health Center.
