Summary: | The complexity of state-owned enterprises is widespread, arising in almost all countries, including Indonesia. These enterprises grow not only in response to incessant demand for public services, but they also wither as officials assign important activities to government bodies. In Indonesia, operations of state enterprises are always influenced by politicians who tend to have a vested interest. Patronage is another reason for assigning programs. Insofar as certain authorities escape the rules designed to curb favoritism in government departments. Politicians can usually use them to take special care of friends, past supporters, or family members. Therefore enterprise margins cannot optimize contribution for the enter-prises themselves or for national development. This article will discuss Indonesian state enterprises empirically and hostirically and the future prospect of state-owned enterprises. |
