Summary: | , Various kinds offibers have been used in concrete mix to improve its mechanical properties. This research is carried out to see the possibility of the application of shredded rubber as fiber material in concrete mix, where the shredded rubber was taken from scrap tires. Rubber is known as ductile material that can under go high deformation. Therefore it is commonly used for material such as fender or base isolation. Moreover, the specific weight of rubber is less than that of ordinary aggregate, so that it can also be used for lightweight concrete. In this research the shredded scrap tire rubber was mixed with cement, water and sand with various amount of cement and volumetric ratio of sand and shredded scrap tire rubber. The amount of cement was varied from 250 kg/m3, 300 kg/m3, 350 kg/m3, 400 kg/m3, and the volumetric ratio of rubber scrap and sand was varied from 100%:0%, 80%:20%, 60%:40%, 40%:60%, 20%:80%, and 0%: 100%. The test results show that the shredded scrap tire rubber reduce the concrete compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, flexural strength and the unit weight, but increase the concrete ductility where the compressive strength, flexural strength and the unit weight is higher for higher cement content with the same volumetric ratio of sand and shredded scrap tire rubber.
