Summary: | ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to know the influence of salt contamination at the surface of suspension insulator on current leakage occuring at critical flashover voltage conditions and 75% air humidity.
This study was carried out according to the following procedures: (1) coating of insulator surface with contaminant, (2) flashover voltage test, (3) measurement of critical current leakage on contaminated insulator surface, and (4) calculation of ESDD.
The results of this study showed that (1) the duration of contaminant spraying influenced the value of ESDD linearly, and (2) the higher the ESDD values applied, the lower the critical flashover voltage, but the higher the current leakage. Furthermore the results showed that the ESDD values and flashover critical voltages had significant influence on current leakage.
