In this paper, we study the simulation of communication protocols. eeded for factory communication network. The simulation model is iscrete and event driven. The parameters used in the simulator have been arefully selected. Different set of parameters simulates different types f protocols. The performances of the existing standard protocols: SHA/CD, Token Bus, and Token Ring, are simulated and discussed. The imulation results show that the deterministic message delay, the ritical aspect of the communication, favors Token Bus rather than SHA/CD. A protocol designed to satisfy the critical timing requirements or Flexible Manufacturing System is proposed. The performance of the roposed protocol is presented and compared with the standard Token Bus used on the simulation.
