description ABSTRACT Real time digital filters have been implemented in a personal computer with the sound card interface using MATLAB technical computing language. MATLAB has a data acquisition toolbox. The toolbox is a collection of M-file functions that provides supports for some popular hardware devices including Microsoft Windows sound cards. In order to get data from the sound card such as countinuosly incoming signal, the data acquisition toolbox has a set of procedures: creates a device object, adds channels, configures property values, starts device object, extracts data, repeats extract data then stops and cleans device object. It is observed that the sound card used to implement real time digital filters has the following system performance: the time conversion of sound card is 49,8866 fIS and the processing rate of a personal computer operated with MATLAB for filtering with 8th order IIR is above 44,1 x 106 data per second.
