CORRECTION OF ROCK SLOPE ANGLE USING SMR MODIFICATION

To determine the rock slope stability requires optimum value of slope angle obtained through Slope Mass Rating (SMR) value. A research on SMR has been done by previous researchers namely Laubscher (1975), Hall (1985), and Orr (1992). However, the angle values obtained from the three typically var...

description To determine the rock slope stability requires optimum value of slope angle obtained through Slope Mass Rating (SMR) value. A research on SMR has been done by previous researchers namely Laubscher (1975), Hall (1985), and Orr (1992). However, the angle values obtained from the three typically vary and are not suitable for some locations. Therefore, correction of the variation across the SMR value obtained is necessary. The study was conducted based on the RMR value obtained through the field data in the andesite quarry site Jelekong, West Java or using secondary data from previous researchers. Based on the correction of the data obtained SMR equation as follows: SMR = 6.9209 RMR0.5323; R² = 0.92. From the equation obtained the optimum value of angle recommended for the slope design with the following criteria (1) Very Poor Rock Quality: the slope angle is stable at a slope of <34.09°, (2) Poor Rock Quality: the slope angle is stable at a slope of 34.99° – 49.31°, (3) Medium Rock Quality: the slope angle is stable at a slope of 49.96° – 61.19°, (4) Good Rock Quality: the slope angle is stable at a slope of 61.72° – 71, 31°, (5) Very Good Rock Quality: the slope angle is stable at a slope of 71.78 ° – 80.30 °.
