Description
Summary:Mercury (Hg) is one of very dangerous heavy metal among the others that cause serious negative effect to human’s healthy. The contamination of Mercury is founded in the groundwater in Sangon II village. Mercury in Sangon II could be comes from two sources : 1. Gold ore mined by artisanal and small scale gold miner (ASGM) that contained natural Mercury, 2. Ore processing using amalgamation that result the waste had contained Mercury. The research is based on the analysis from data that samples of groundwater, the gold ore and the waste of gold processing are analyzed by Mercury Analyzer Lab 254, Laboratorium Penelitian Dan Pengujian Terpadu (LPPT), Gadjah Mada University. The analysis method is compared with the result of the same field research before and the geology research before in Sangon II to make analysis the source of Mercury in the groundwater. The results of Mercury in the groundwater are 3 samples of the groundwater had contained Mercury ( S1 = 0,00030 mg/L at 550 m distance from the ore processing, S2 = 0,00087 mg/L at 200 m distance dan S3 = 0,00039 mg/L at 510 m distance) and according to the result of the research before, the groundwater in this area had contained Mercury. Two samples of the gold ore had contained Mercury (SBj = 0,28 mg/L dan SBj 2 = 0,14181 mg/Kg). The sample of waste had contained Mercury (SLi = 0,99994 mg/L).The source of Mercury in groundwater is greater dominated by Mercury in gold ore than one that resulted by amalgamation waste, because the chemical reaction between Mercury in the ore and the sulfide mineral that cause Mercury have been change from Mercury elemen (Hg(0)) become another forms such as Hg(I) or Hg(II)) and the ore processing is fluctuating. The form of Mercury in groundwater is in the ions formed.
