Description
Summary:This paper is based on an anthropological study of the hamlet of Gimbal on the southwestern slope of Merapi volcano threat to Gimbal by two different paties, the national goverment and the villagers response has consisted of trying to remain on the volcano and adapt to its hazards, using local system of knowledge to both monitor (empirically) and explain (ontologically) the volcanic activity. Comparison of these two different responses to the volcanic hazard suggest that the government's less objective, while the villagers is less subjective than is commonly thought to be case.
