description Innovation in technologies affects all aspects in human life, including architecture. Using computational technologies, simulation can be done to predict wide range of building performance. Many researches are done to examine the performance of shading device based on sustainability issue. Rather than dealing with only its performance, this paper examines other possibilities of designing shading device that is not only relate with sustainability issue but also consider the building identity. Disruptive design of combination between architectural design and sustainability issue is the topic of this paper. Case study analysis is used to show buildings that have unique identity in their façade. From this study, shading device is designed using parametric approach of batik pattern modification. Indonesian Batik which is known as world intangible cultural heritage is used for finding façade pattern. The Parang and Kawung motif are chosen for its easy-recognizable shape. The performance of shading device for blocking solar radiation is measured to find its effectiveness on eight different orientations all year round. Building simulation will be performed in Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital city to measure the shading device performance in reducing solar radiation. The results show possibilities of designing locally unique façade while maintaining performance to reduce solar radiation.
