Summary: | Effect of various levels of rice bran and water hyacinth added to sawdust growing media on the yield and protein content of oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus (Jacq. exFr.) Kummer) was studied at the Sanggar Tani Media Agro Merapi, in Grogol Village, Umbulharjo, Cangkringan, Sleman, Yogyakarta from October 2006 to Februari 2007. The experiment was arranged in 3 x 3 factorial design using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three replications. The first factor consisted of three levels of rice bran i.e., 0, 10, and 20% (w/w) of sawdust growing media, and the second factor consisted of three levels of water hyacinth i.e., 0, 10, and 20% (w/w) sawdust growing media. The results indicated that in almost all variabels
there were interactions between rice bran and eceng gondok except on the dry weight of the mushroom. Combination 20% rice bran a.nd 10% water hyacinth in sawdust gave the highest yield and the protein content of oyster mushroom.
