Summary: | This research was aimed to develop screening technique for drought and salinity stress and to know the effectiveness of the technique. The reseach had been done in two steps, field test in green house agriculture Faculty, Gadjah Mada University at Desember 2005 till March 2006 and
germination test in Tri Dharma Fe/d, agriculture Faculty, Gadjah Mada University in April-May 2006.
Three factors used in this experiment was aranged in Completely Random Design (CRD) by 3 replication (field test) and 4 replication (germination test). The first factor was 5 peanut varieties, namely Lokal Bantul, Kelinci, Bima, Singa and Kancil. The second factor was 4 waterings with PEG-6000 concentration consist of: 0%, 10%, 20% and 30% and the third factor were 4 waterings with NaC/ consist of: 0 mM, 50 mM, 100mM and 150 mM. To know the growth capacity and the germ capacity of plant the germination test was held for 14 days (2 weeks). .
The result showed that there was no significant different among varieties at vigor index, plant high, number of root nodule, number of productive internode, harvested age, number of weight per plant, and the weight of 100 grain. There are three varieties having tolerance to drought and salinity stress based on the lengt of root, flowering age and the number of pod, namely Kelinci and followed by Lokal Bantul and Singa. The germination and the growth of peanut was disturbed at 10% watering of PEG-6000 ang 50
mM watering of NaCI solution, so that ombination both of them can be used to screening technique. The variety that having tolerant of drought and salinity stress at germination phase, will have the tolerant at the next phases.
