Summary:On March 27, 2009the dam of Situ Gintung which is located in the sub-urban area of Jakarta capital city was collapsing. This disaster has caused more than one hundred people are dead and missing. The last of property are of millions rupiah. this event shocked many people and the authorities. Since there many other such small reservoirs around will be a lot of lost. This paper present an experience in simulating the flood propagation caused by the breaking of Situ Gintung dam. The simulation was done HEC-RAS 4.0 Beta version. The breaching process parameter and the hydraulic parameters are set to be as close as possible to the data available on the field. Calibration was done in qualitative approach since there was no measures data at the event of the collapse. The simulation has given reasonable results and can be implemented to other similar dams around the heavily populated area to guide necessary action to be taken.
